Some days are just crappy

Yesterday was Monday.  And, for my partner it was the Monday from hell.

After lunch, her boss and the boss's boss called her in to the office.  Told her that due to budget issues they were going to have to lay her off.  No, she hadn't done anything wrong, they loved her work ethic, but as the temp she was the first to go.  (Never mind the fact that they are running an ad for a maintenance worker at a lower pay grade.  Whatever.)

That afternoon, as we commiserated about the job, we got the call we were dreading from the Vet.  The results came back on the needle biopsy he had done on T's beloved dog.  Yep, as feared, lymphoma.  Chloe, the Rottweiler, is only 8 years old but that's the same age that her previous Rotty died of cancer.  Still.  A shitty and sobering day.

But, because my middle name is Pollyanna, here's the good:  T went to work this morning at her previous place of employment.  William is delighted to have her back.  And, Chloe isn't acting sick at all so we are hoping that will have some good quality time for a while yet.

Plus, for me anyway, there is the realization that other sorrows make these pale in comparison.  My friend's mother is dying right now, something that I am still coming to terms with in my own life, and the loss of a job and even of a beloved pet are not on the same scale at all.  At all.

I'm sorry it's been a lousy day. I'm sorry these things have happened at a time when you are still deeply in mourning. You're right, some days are like that.

I have Pollyanna as my middle name as well.I am glad that there is a bit of silver in the clouds.

It's remarkable how you always manage to see the good, even through the darkest, thickest clouds. I'm really sorry for T. My best to you both for better days to come.

My darling (and brilliant) mother used to say 'If your glass is half empty, get a smaller glass."

Somedays, I have to find a thimble, but I make every attempt to keep my life in a glass that sized appropriately for what's in it that day.

Except for beer. Pint glasses all the way, filled to the brim, little to no foam. I'm just sayin'..

Companies would rather let someone go than offer them a lower pay. I kinda get it, but then it doesn't make sense. Why not just tell her they have budget constraints, they'd have to cut her salary or let her go and give her the choice?

True that the death of a pet doesn't even compare to the death of a beloved person, but it still sucks big, honkin' donkey balls.

Lemons to lemonade. It's either that or drowning in self pity - which can feel surprisingly not as pathetic as it you think it is. But, lemonade is definitely better.

Oh, my goodness, it is always something. I'm glad T was able to find re-employment quickly. That is a good thing. Very sorry about the dog. We are watching Peaches but she is fading. Some days are good and fun, others not so much. It's tougher on G than on me, I confess. And yes, compared to losing your mom, it all does sort of fade in comparison. Hugs and healing to all of you!

What elf (& others) said, in spades.

My thoughts are with you (all).

Peace.

Bing is the Pollyanna in our house. Her favorite phrase to throw at anyone who complains is, "Well, at least you don't have cancer," or "At least you aren't in a wheel chair."

Truthfully, sometimes I want to smack her. Sorry..but it is the truth!
